Path Through History – Greats of Jazz & Vaudeville: A Victrola Trolley Tour

Join us as we visit and celebrate some of the greatest performers from 100 years ago and their indelible musical contributions to jazz, pop and vaudeville history.

Each stop will include a brief talk about the entertainer PLUS a 78rpm record played on an antique crank-up Victrola as an aural dimension to the tour.

Artists include:

Nat M. Wills

Fritz Kriesler

George M. Cohan

Irene and Vernon Castle

Nora Bayes

Bert Williams

W.C. Handy

King Oliver

Duke Ellington

Irving Berlin

This tour is 3 hours long and involves short periods of walking to and from the trolley and between sites.

Tour is led by Michael Cumella (aka Phonograph DJ MAC), host of The Antique Phonograph Music Program and Centennial Songs on WFMU since 1995.

MAC is the creator of the Phonograph DJ concept and is active in the live presentation of pre-electric 78rpm records on crank-up gramophones.

We will be meeting at the Jerome Avenue and Bainbridge Avenue gate at 12:45 PM and the Trolley Tour will begin at 1:00 PM.

There are only 30 seats so tickets must be purchased in advance.

We look forward to hosting you.
