FREE EVENT – Author’s Talk with Mercedes Ellington “Duke Ellington: An American Composer and Icon”
Registration is closed for this event

Join us as author, dancer, choreographer, director and producer, Mercedes Ellington, discusses the life and works of her grandfather, Duke Ellington, with a book signing of Duke Ellington:  An American Composer and Icon.

Beautifully illustrated and unparalleled in scope, the book illuminates the life and work of the legendary jazz icon from his humble beginnings to his long-lasting success as the "prince of the piano."

Alongside more than two hundred stunning images, contributions from peers such as Dave Brubeck, Cornel West, Quincy Jones, and Tony Bennett shed light on Ellington’s musical legacy, while the voice of his granddaughter Mercedes reveals the character behind the charisma, and the man behind the piano.

Ms. Ellington, an acclaimed performer herself and daughter of musician Mercer Ellington, also founded the Duke Ellington Center for the Arts, a non-profit dedicated to scholarship, education, and performance connected to the legacy of Duke Ellington.
