Endless Glamour: Art Deco Monuments at Woodlawn
Art Deco designers met a new post-World War I world with jaunty, daring music, fashion, products, architecture. It was a style specifically developed to say goodbye to the pre-War past. Technology, speed and youth were central to the new world being created to supplant the old one. Buildings were lighted in brilliant colors so they could advertise themselves night and day.
Come visit the monuments our Woodlawn patrons commissioned in this brave new style and see them illuminated in colored light that celebrates the era. We’ll be talking about the origins of this exuberant movement and get the flavor of a little-known aspect of Woodlawn’s fascinating history.
The period between the world wars was a time similar to our own. International culture was influenced by changes in economies, politics and technologies that were reflected in a radically new approach to design. Art Deco even influenced our patrons’ eternal resting places. Visit mausoleum interiors and see Woodlawn in a totally new way with Jazz Age monuments boldly lighted against the darkness of night. Come explore all this with us at Woodlawn!
