Bring your lawn chairs and join us for a FREE Jazz Concert at The Woodlawn Cemetery & Conservancy.
Celebrate the Woodlawn jazz legacy with Victor Goines and friends.
On Sunday, July 14th, Goines performs the music of King Oliver, WC Handy, and Duke Ellington at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
The ninety minute program includes the songs made famous when the unique sounds of jazz made their debut in New York during the Harlem Renaissance.
Goines, well known for his expertise in this era, will be featured on clarinet and saxophone.
His “Friends” include: Aaron Diehl, piano, Kenny Rampton, trumpet, Yasushi Nakamura, bass and Marion Felder on drums.
Victor Goines, the Director of Jazz Studies at Northwestern University has been a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra since 1993.
A native of New Orleans, he has served as the musical director for performances presenting the early days of jazz including Kings of the Crescent City and Untamed Elegance which included works by Ellington and original compositions by Goines.
As the Musical Director for the PBS Great Performance Special Harlem and Montmartre, Goines brought the music of Bricktop’s Paris jazz club to television audiences.
