Due to the weather conditions, the cemetery’s grounds are closed to the general public for walking and sightseeing, however, the cemetery’s administration office is open. The cemetery’s grounds are open to vehicular traffic for visitation of loved ones, however, please be aware that conditions might not be suitable for visitors to walk to the gravesite, and visitors will have to make that determination when they arrive. Pedestrians coming to visit loved ones may be escorted by our security personnel, to the gravesite, but there is no guarantee that the security personnel will be able to find the location due to conditions at the gravesite.
The Woodlawn Cemetery welcomes groups to schedule private tours. Our staff historian and team of volunteer docents can provide a general overview of the cemetery’s history and collections, or a tour can be curated to a group’s specific area of interest.
SENIORS / RETIREES
Woodlawn is an outdoor museum in so many ways: the collection of mausolea and monuments, set on 400 beautifully landscaped acres, stand as individual works of art to be interpreted and shared. Discover beautifully carved stonework, and historical narratives significant to both our borough, city, region, and nation.
Professional groups, family reunions and other special parties can arrange to develop customized tours which speak to your specific areas of interest.
Private tours can be arranged year-round, seven days per week. Contact us (718) 408-5652.
External guides are welcome at Woodlawn. To ensure the accuracy and quality of interpretation and presentation meets Woodlawn’s standards, we require that all operators/guides not affiliated with Woodlawn coordinate with our staff in advance to discuss tour themes and sites. In addition, the proposed tour route and tour script must be provided in advance.
